In this course, we will study six English-language novels by South Asian Indian women writers, considering their work in light of contemporary theories of the Gothic. We will probe the following questions: What is a Gothic poetics? How can a Gothic poetics help us to interpret novels written by South Asian women? What are the socio-historical conditions from which a South Asian feminist Gothic poetics emerges?
