Providing historical background to current concepts of children's literature, the course examines the evolution of children's literature, its trends and themes, as well as contemporary children's literature. A short time is spent considering what childhood is, so as to understand some of the childhood responses to literature. The course then attempts to answer the question: 'What is Children's Literature?' Prerequisite: Full year of 200-level English.
