Providing historical background to current concepts of children's literature; the course examines the evolution of children's literature; its trends and themes; as well as contemporary children's literature. A short time is spent considering what childhood is; so as to understand some of the childhood responses to literature. The course then attempts to answer the question: 'What is Children's Literature?' Prerequisite: Full year of 200-level English.
